Wazuku is an ancient Japanese iron-making technique that involves smelting iron sand with charcoal. Because of its durability and resistance to corrosion, it has traditionally been used in the forging of Japanese swords.

It also improves the taste of tea and coffee.

Syrtem-X is casted by Yosuke Higuchi, Ashiya Imono YO

Around 700 years ago, the Ashiya Kama was born in Ashiya Town, Fukuoka Prefecture. These iron kettles became highly sought after for the tea ceremony and deeply impressed nobles of the Northern and Southern Courts period. However, when the Ōuchi clan—who had been the strongest patrons of Ashiya metal casters—met their downfall, the Ashiya Kama, which had continued for 250 years, suddenly disappeared.

Four hundred years then passed before the town began efforts to revive the tradition, leading to the emergence of two craftsmen. One of them, Yosuke Higuchi, was captivated by the profound presence of the Ashiya Kama and decided to become an artisan. He now also works to propose new possibilities for cast metal in order to share the beauty of Japanese culture with a wider audience.

Following in the footsteps left by his predecessors, the once-legendary kettle is coming back to life in the modern era
